After a shaky start to the season Brighton have won three in a row at home and Martin Montoya's performance in the win over Norwich was the best of the weekend. Not only did he provide a valuable assist for his side the key to his performance was his disciplined defensive display; the former Barcelona player won 7/10 duels, won four out of four tackles, two of three aerials duels as well as eight ball recoveries and five interceptions. At both end of the pitch, Montoya was vital.
Lundstram only played a minor supporting role in Sheffield United's promotion season but has been crucial to their style of play in the Premier League, and he enhanced his reputation with an impressive double against Burnley. Two neat finishes, and it was almost a hat-trick had he not skewed a late effort wide, but he also remained diligent in possession, completing 32/37 passes as well as winning 2/3 tackles and six ball recoveries.
This was the definition of an unselfish performance from Mousset. Much derided at Bournemouth, he has been an astute piece of business for the Blades and his rare triple-assist laid the foundation for a confident home win over Burnley. His first was a cute flick backwards into the path of Lundstram, knowing he couldn't score, the second a well-placed touch to the same player for the second. He laid in John Fleck for the third and he was also an important physical presence for his team up top.
Man City handed Southampton a territorial battering but in terms of chances created they were held at bay magnificently by the visitors until the closing stages. Walker was tireless on the right, continuing to push the team forward despite victory appearing unlikely. He completed a seriously high 67/70 passes, swung in seven crosses, created a big chance for his team but, most importantly, burst into the near post to smash him in the final minutes for an absolutely vital victory.
This was a hugely impressive, match-controlling performance from Kovacic who, alongside Jorginho, are becoming a vital midfield presence for a Chelsea team getting better by the week. Of his 154 touches - by some distance the most of the weekend - he completed a dizzying 134 of 140 passes. Twenty-eight of those ended up in the final third and as well as that he won all seven of his duels contested. From a dispensable position, he has become a vital component for Frank Lampard's team.
HONOURABLE MENTIONS
Caglar Soyuncu (8.6) gets better by the week for Leicester and produced another super display as well as opening the scoring away at Crystal Palace.
ROUND TO FORGET
Andre Gray (5.1) and his Watford career just isn't getting started, completing just seven passes and only managing a single shot off target against Chelsea.
