Chey Dunkley, Matt Phillips, and Nakhi Wells impress in the second tier.

There isn't a lot of room to breathe at the top of the English Championship at the moment, with just three points separating Leeds United in first and Charlton in eighth.

The majority of our top performers feature within that top section, but for Wigan and Stoke Chey Dunkley and Badou Diaya put in superb outings to help their respective teams earn vital points down at the bottom of the table.

Our most impressive performer comes in the form of Chey Dunkley, who netted a brace for Wigan in their 2-0 win over Charlton - despite being a central defender. The towering tackler proved he is just as effective at the other side of the pitch as he displayed brute strength to fire his side into the lead from a corner, before doubling his tally with a bullet header from close range. Add to that five out of seven aerial duels won and eight clearances, and it was pretty much a perfect day for the 27-year-old.

Back to the attackers now, as Matt Phillips starred for West Brom in their entertaining 4-2 victory over Huddersfield. Normally deployed as a winger or auxiliary striker, the Scotland international displayed his predatory instincts at the Hawthorns as he twice patiently held his run inside the box to receive a reverse pass from a team-mate to coolly slot home for his two goals. He put 12 crosses into the box, too, so was aiming to give as well as receive.

Nakhi Wells proved to be the match-winner for Queens Park Rangers as they fought to a 2-1 away victory at Millwall. He scored two on the day, and they couldn't really be more different from each other. The first, scored on 56 mins, was a beautiful, curled effort into the top corner with his left foot, while the second may as well be attributed to Millwall keeper Bartosz Bialkowski, as it was he who laid the ball on a plate for the QPR striker to slide a finish into the empty net with 18 minutes remaining.

Another Baggies entry as Darnell Furlong joins team-mate Matt Phillips. Another positive outing from a defender who managed to get on the scoresheet for his team. Following a cleared set-piece, Furlong remained inside the box and rose above everyone to glance a lovely header in at the near post. He also won seven out of seven aerial duels in his defensive duties, and made 21 passes into the final third.

At the moment, second from bottom Stoke City need to try and find positive wherever they can find them, having not yet won a game this season. Badou Ndiaye was certainly a source of positivity as they drew 0-0 away at Brentford, as he was the major force in the middle of the park, winning 100% of his attempted tackles, as well as completing 38 out of 43 attempted passes.

HONOURABLE MENTIONS

Hull City demolished Luton 3-0 away from home and their star men on the day were Kevin Stewart (8.1) and George Long (8.05), with the former grabbing a goal and the latter recording an assist. Stewart won four out of seven attempted tackles in the middle of the park, while Long impressed with 11 ball recoveries.

ROUND TO FORGET

Bartosz Białkowski (4.9) is the guilty party here in this round, and it couldn't really be anyone else. Only one minute after Millwall equalised, he gifted QPR the advantage by wandering out from goal and laying the ball straight to the feet of Nakhi Wells.
