After Frankfurt's 5-0 demolition of Augsburg, Filip Kostic has now been involved in six goals in his last two games, with him scoring two and assisting a further two on Friday evening.

He set up the opening goal with a curled corner kick in from the left, and it was from this flank that he continued to cause mayhem, assisting Frankfurt's third just seven minutes later with a perfect, clipped cross to the head of Andre Silva.

Kostic was already Frankfurt's star performer, but just to make sure, he went and bagged himself a couple of goals within a minute. His first was a signature, lashed left-footed strike across goal into the bottom corner, while the second was tapped home after he stole possession away from the feet of Goncalo Pacienca, who looked less than happy.

He sent successful crosses into the box and 15 passes into the final third.

After four straight losses in the league, Mainz bounced back with an impressive 3-1 away victory against Hertha, with Robin Quaison bagging a hat-trick.

He was helped by an awful home defence all day, but was still there to put the ball in the back of the net, initially with a smart finish into the bottom corner after some neat footwork for his first. The second was down to the good work by Karim Onisiwo, who got the better of his defender at the line before sending a low pass across the box for the tap in.

After a foul by Dedryck Boyata inside the box, he took advantage to score the subsequent spotkick.

He probably should have had more than three, as he missed a further two one-on-ones.

Union Berlin heaped further misery on lowly Werder Bremen win a 2-0 away win on Saturday, with Marius Bulter emerging as the match winner with both goals.

He was deployed just to the left of the central striker but constantly drifted inside to become the number nine, and it was from this position that he beat the Bremen offside trap to latch on to the low cross from Christopher Lenz to score.

His second was actually meant to be a pass as his initial cross into the box was blocked back out to him. The next attempt was skewed to the left and just went over the line despite the despairing efforts of the defender.

Defensively he worked hard, too, as he made five ball recoveries.

In the best match of the weekend in the Bundesliga, Leverkusen snatched a late 4-3 win against Dortmund. Twenty shots were attempted at goal, but Kevin Volland proved himself to be the one with ice in his veins as he converted two for his two goals.

It was the German that opened the scoring 20 minutes in after showing impressive pace and strength to burst beyond the BVB defence before lashing an emphatic left-footed finish into the bottom corner. For his second, he held his run inside the penalty area to receive a cross from the line from Jonathan Tah, which allowed him to drill a strike home.

As usual, he tirelessly attempted to heap pressure on the opposition defence, and did so with six ball recoveries and two aerial duels won.

Even though Volland performed the better of the two, it is Lars Bender who stole the headlines after his dramatic winning goal eight minutes from time just a minute after Leverkusen had came back to equalise.

It was a cracking way to win a match, too, as he rose above everyone inside the box to glance a beauty of a header across goal into the top right corner.

In his usual defensive work, he was dominant, winning the majority of his duels, 6/7 tackles, as well as making eight ball recoveries.

His passing was superb, too, as he completed 37/42 balls to team-mates.

HONOURABLE MENTION

Freiburg earned a 1-0 home win versus Hoffenheim and have goalkeeper Alexander Schwolow (8.3) to thank as he made six saves and six ball recoveries for his side. His distribution was pretty good, also, as he completed 27/36 passes from the back.

ROUND TO FORGET

Augsburg were hopeless at the back in the loss against Frankfurt. Trio Ohis Uduokhai (4.9), Philipp Max (4.9), and Jeffrey Gouweleeuw (5), whilst conceding five as defenders, won just two tackles between the three of them all game.
