Zinedine Zidane's future at Real Madrid hangs in the balance after their stunning 2-0 defeat against Shakhtar Donetsk and puts their Champions League future in serious jeopardy.

And the response in Spain to Madrid's fifth defeat in six has been to suggest that the Frenchman may be looking for new employment - though the ire was not just reserved for the coach.

Real Madrid-leaning newspaper Marca declared that 'Real Madrid are a disaster' but were keen to add that 'no-one is saved', referencing the ineptness of the entire squad as a whole and not just Zidane.

Marca continued: "They surrendered, something [that has] little in keeping with the history of Real Madrid, which collapsed without remission."

Marca also said that Varane is a player 'who gives more than he takes' in reference to his direct error which led to the opening goal.

AS, on the other hand, went ever further, calling Real Madrid 'Europa League meat' and suggesting that the sale of Cristiano Ronaldo was a mistake, adding 'This is on Florentino [Perez] who wrote him [Ronaldo] off.'

AS also said of the performance: Madrid's performances are remarkably alike on bad days, and average days. The good ones are hard to find."

El Mundo Deportivo announced that 'this is a Real Madrid whose freefall has came to the Champions League, and they are defeated with astonishing ease.'

With Real Madrid set to face Sevilla, Borussia Monchengladbach and Atletico Madrid in the next 10 days, what happens in those matches won't only decide the fate of Zidane, but the future development of this team.
