No Thiago Silva? - How Chelsea could line-up against Newcastle

With the Brazilian returning late from international duty, he may miss out on the game at St James' Park on Saturday

Due to his exploits on Brazil duty, Thiago Silva is likely to miss Chelsea's trip to Newcastle, with Frank Lampard keen to rest him when necessary.

Silva missed the Southampton game after returning late from South America, and Chelsea conceded three, a worrying stat for Lampard.

However, the form of Edouard Mendy in goal has been a shining light this season, and the Blues have conceded just once in their past six games in all competitions, suggesting they may be able to cope without the experience of Silva.

In terms of a replacement for Silva, Andreas Christensen took the Brazilian's place in that game against Southampton, but both he and Fikayo Tomori haven't even featured on the bench in the Premier League since.

That suggests it will likely be Antonio Rudiger, who has been on the bench, who takes the place of Silva alongside Kurt Zouma.

Reece James was unable to play in either of England's two Nations League games due to suspension, so he returned early to the Chelsea camp, meaning he's likely to start.

The knock Ben Chilwell picked up against Belgium appears to be minor and so it looks like the two Englishmen will once again be the full-back pairing.

With Kai Havertz having to self-isolate two weeks ago, he's unfit and so won't feature, with the same midfield three as against Sheffield United: N'Golo Kante, Mason Mount and Mateo Kovacic the most likely option.

All three scored for their country during this international break, and Lampard will be hoping they can carry that form over to club level.

Christain Pulisic is still carrying the knock he sustained during the warm-up against Burnley, and with Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner and Tammy Abraham impressing last time out, it will be those three who lead the line once again.
