There's an extra bit of spice added to Manchester United versus Liverpool as it will see two Dutch compatriots, Erik ten Hag and Arne Slot, go head-to-head in the dugout.

The Red Devils have again spent big in the transfer market to try and get back in the Champions League after a dismal campaign in 2023/24, while Liverpool have been frugal in the market, focusing more on adopting a new style of play under former Feyenoord boss, Slot.

Match Preview

Man Utd recent form

United have, again, looked average in their performances at the start of the campaign. They were fortunate to beat Fulham on the opening day and had to rely on a late winner from new signing Joshua Zirkzee to claim all three points.

They got a taste of their own medicine next time out against Brighton, as Joao Pedro scored the winner late on as the Seagulls won 2-1 at home.

Man Utd injury news

Leny Yoro, Luke Shaw, Rasmus Hojlund, Will Fish, Tyrell Malacia and Victor Lindelöf are definitely out.

At the moment, it is looking unlikely that Mason Mount will be risked after being brought off at half-time against Brighton, so that could mean a first start for Zirkzee up top.

Last Man Utd starting XI

Liverpool recent form

The Reds have been fairly flawless in the opening two matches, winning both 2-0 against Ipswich and Brentford.

Mohamed Salah has two goals from those two games.

Liverpool injury news

The only injury concern for Liverpool surrounds Curtis Jones, but it isn't serious and he could feature against United.

Referee: Anthony Taylor

Assistants: Gary Beswick, Adam Nunn

Fourth official: Sam Barrott

VAR: John Brooks

Assistant VAR: Harry Lennard

Man Utd - Player to Watch?

Bruno Fernandes has been poor in his first two games this season and missed a couple of sitters against Fulham. Not only have his performances been poor, but his attitude has left a lot to be desired, so he'll need to step up in such an important game.

Liverpool - Player to Watch?

It seems crazy that Liverpool even considered allowing Salah to leave for the Saudi Pro League a year ago, as he remains one of the most potent finishers in world football. He has two goals from his first two games in the new campaign.

Man Utd vs Liverpool - Prediction

Liverpool to Win and Both teams To Score

In four of Liverpool's last six away games, there has been over two goals scored. Man Utd have scored in five and conceded in five of their last six home games, while Liverpool have scored in five and conceded in five of their last six away games.

Scoreline prediction - Man Utd 1-3 Liverpool
