Goretzka and Alaba to return? How Bayern Munich could line-up against Freiburg

Bayern Munich manager Hansi Flick is expected to bring back a number of key players that were dropped for the club's German Cup defeat

Bayern Munich manager Hansi Flick will be desperate to get his team back to winning ways after a recent run of bad form.

The Bavarian giants were knocked out of the German Cup earlier in the week by Holstein Kiel, following a 3-2 defeat to Gladbach in the Bundesliga.

However, that may not be as simple as Flick may have hoped, as his side welcome an in-form and determined Freiburg side to the Allianz Arena.

Fortunately for the Bayern manager, he should be able to rely on a largely fit squad of players for Sunday’s match.

In defence, Flick will stick with goalkeeper Manuel Neuer and welcome back central defenders Jerome Boateng and David Alaba, following their brief break in the German Cup. Benjamin Pavard will once again be asked to turn his form around at right-back, while Alphonso Davies continues his return to full fitness and form on the left.

Similarly, Flick’s midfield should also see a number of returning faces. Leon Goretzka didn’t travel with the team for their German Cup clash and is expected to be back in the middle of the park, alongside Joshua Kimich.

Up front, Leroy Sane and Serge Gnabry are likely to keep their spots on either wing as Kingsley Coman continues his return from injury, with Thomas Muller in his usual No.10 position. Robert Lewandowski is also expected to return to the team, following his dropping to the bench against Holstein Kiel.
