Nantes are a French football club who feature in the French Ligue 1. They are one of the most successful clubs in France, having won the domestic league eight times as well as the Coupe de France on three occasions. Nantes, also known as the Canaris, also reached the semi-final of the UEFA Champions League in 1996. Historically, their most famous and celebrated players are Marcel Desailly, Didier Deschamps, Mickael Landreau, Claude Makelele, Christian Karembeu and Jeremy Toulalan, Frederic Da Rocha, Nicolas Savinaud, and Jean-Michel Ferri. Their head coach when they reached the semi-final of the Champions League in 1996 was Jean-Claude Suaudeau. Their home since 1984 has been the Stade de la Beaujoire which has a capacity of nearly 39,000 spectators and which has hosted many high-profile music converts.
